Gunshot wound cause of death for Mitchell

MARQUETTE, MI--   An autopsy performed on an Alger County man who ran from Munising Police and crashed his car indicates he died from a gunshot wound.

Timothy Mitchell, 47, was allegedly involved in an altercation in Christmas Monday, then fled from police down Federal Forest Highway 13.  His car crashed at Buckhorn Road, at which time the shooting occurred.

It’s unknown if Mitchell had a gun in his possession.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officer involved in the shooting has been put on administrative leave until the investigation concludes.

The official autopsy report is pending, as well as results from toxicology tests.
