Fire, explosions at Ontonagon residence

ONTONAGON, MI--   Firefighters battled flames and explosions at a home in Ontonagon early Monday morning.

The County Sheriff’s Office says officials were called to 426 Minnesota Avenue around 1:23 a.m.  Multiple explosions that weren’t natural gas-related were also reported inside the house.

Officials evacuated nearby residences as a precaution.  They say the resident of the home is in Louisiana at this time and no one was injured.

The state fire marshal is on the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
