Sawyer fire guts apartment

SAWYER, MI--   Two pets were lost in an apartment fire at Sawyer Sunday.

The Forsyth Township and Skandia West Branch fire departments were called to a building on the 300 block of Commando Street around 12:30 p.m.

The fire was extinguished, but the apartment was declared a total loss.

No people were injured in the fire, but two pets died.

Officials haven’t officially determined the cause of the blaze, but think it could be a faulty air conditioner.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
