DNR searches for swan killer

ALBERTA, MI (AP)--   Michigan conservation officers are asking the public for information about a tundra swan that was illegally shot and killed in Baraga County.

The state Department of Natural Resources says the bird was killed over the weekend and found in the vicinity of Burns Lake near the village of Alberta.

Tundra swans are a protected, nongame species in Michigan. Illegally hunting a nongame species is a misdemeanor punishable by a $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail.
