"The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down..."

DETROIT, MI (AP)--   A ceremony in Detroit is to honor sailors lost on inland waterways as well as observe the 39th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

The Detroit Historical Society's Dossin Maritime Group is set to host the ceremony Monday at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle.

In addition to the Edmund Fitzgerald, this year's Lost Mariners Remembrance event also is to focus on those sailors who died on the Benjamin Noble on Lake Superior 100 years ago.

The evening's activities are to begin with a lantern vigil at the Edmund Fitzgerald anchor, followed by a performance by Great Lakes balladeer Lee Murdock and an honor guard escort of a memorial wreath to the Detroit River for receipt by a flotilla of Great Lakes vessels.
