Gladstone Commissioners again targeted for recall

GLADSTONE, MI (AP)--   A Gladstone man has again filed petitions to recall three members of the City Commission.

Delta County Clerk Nancy Kolich says Timothy DeClaire filed petitions against Hugo Mattonen, Joseph Maki, and David Nemacheck January 16.  The reason cited is that the commissioners levied an additional 1.8236 mills to the Gladstone City millage.

Kolich says the petitions contained more than the minimum 432 necessary valid signatures.

The targeted commissioners have until February 16 to file written challenges.  If the minimum number of signatures remain valid after the challenge period is over, Kolich will set a recall election for May 5.

The three being recalled will appear on the ballot, along with any new candidates that file paperwork with the Gladstone City Clerk.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
