DNR opens registration for Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program

MARQUETTE, MI (AP)--   Registration is open for the state Department of Natural Resources annual Becoming an Outdoors-Woman summer program.

The BOW program is scheduled June 5-7 at Bay Cliff Health Camp in Big Bay.

It offers women instruction in more than two dozen types of outdoor activities, including kayaking, wilderness first aid and survival, lake and fly-fishing, and boating. It also includes hikes, group bonfires and other special evening programs.

Coordinator Sharon Pitz says the program's "emphasis is on the enjoyment, fun and camaraderie of outdoor activities."

The registration deadline for the program is May 15.

A limited number of scholarships are available for low-income participants. The scholarship deadline is May 1.
