Fallen officers to be remembered at memorial

HOUGHTON, MI--   Law enforcement officers from the Upper Peninsula and surrounding region are gathering to honor their own. 

Agencies from Houghton, Keweenaw and Baraga Counties are hosting the 2015 Upper Peninsula Peace Officers Memorial Service Friday at Michigan Technological University.  The memorial will recognize and honor officers from the U.P., nearby areas and Ontario, Canada who have fallen in the line of duty.

The event begins at 10 a.m. with a motorcade procession from Calumet to the MTU Student Development Complex.  Services start at 11 a.m. and a luncheon for all officers and family members of fallen officers will be provided after the ceremony. 

The public is invited and encouraged to attend.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
