Iron Industry Museum receives new items

NEGAUNEE, MI (AP)--   A number of newly excavated objects are being added to the permanent exhibits at the Michigan Iron Industry Museum in Negaunee.

The industrial and domestic items were unearthed by archaeologists with Michigan Technological University. They'll be highlighted during a museum open house Sunday, along with new interactive experiences and graphics.

Officials say the artifacts expand the interpretation of the Carp River Forge near the museum. The forge was the first iron factory in the Lake Superior region.

The open house and concert kick off a summer-long series of programs and events at the Michigan Iron Industry Museum. It's one of 11 nationally accredited museums administered by the Michigan Historical Center, an agency within the Department of Natural Resources.
