Local fire department gets federal grant

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Marquette Fire Department has received more than $64,000 from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. 

The money will be used to purchase 12 self-contained breathing apparatuses. 

The Assistance to Firefighters Program offers competitive grants to help fund professional training programs, update equipment and facilities, and provide supplies to help first responders handle hazards efficiently and effectively. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
