Marquette house fire causes thousands in damage

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Marquette family is being helped by the Pigs-N-Heat Fund, following a fire at their Magnetic Street home. 

Saturday around 9 p.m. city firefighters were called to 201 East Magnetic and found heavy heat and smoke in the basement.  The crew was able to control the fire in ten minutes. 

The home’s occupants were alerted by a working smoke detector in the basement and were able to get out safely.  No injuries are reported.

Officials say structure damage is estimated at $10,000 and content loss at about $15,000. 

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
