MARQUETTE, MI-- The Department of Natural Resources says the risk of wildfire is rising in several
areas of the state.
Warm temperatures and a lack of rain have produced high to very high fire danger. Those conditions are expected to last into the weekend.
DNR fire prevention specialist Dan Laux says firefighters have been responding to more wildfire calls over the past few days. He wants residents to heed the following safety tips:
- Use fire rings in nonflammable areas that are sheltered from wind
- Keep a water source and shovel nearby
- Place roasting sticks in a bucket of water when not in use
- Never leave a campfire unattended
- Completely extinguish fires before turning in for the night. Douse them with water, stir, and douse again to make sure no hot embers are left.
