REPUBLIC, MI--   A wildfire has consumed more than 70 acres in Humboldt Township.

Department of Natural Resources firefighters and crews from four township fire departments are battling the blaze, which was spotted Thursday around 1 p.m. about four miles northeast of Republic.  As of Thursday night it was reportedly 60 percent contained.

No homes or other structures have been threatened and no evacuations were ordered.

The DNR says in the past day or two loggers have been working at the site where the wildfire started, but it’s unknown what ignited it.

Lundin Mining Corporation is letting firefighters use its water supply at the Humboldt Mill to fight the fire.

Holli Forest Products of Ishpeming owned much of the logged timber lost in the blaze.  Officials estimate that loss to be at least $150,000.
