Michigan State Police participate in 'Brake Safety Week'

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Michigan State Police motor carrier officers are participating in an annual enforcement and educational operation focusing on commercial vehicle braking components.

Inspections take places during national Brake Safety Week, which starts Sunday and runs through September 12th.

A Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration study says brakes are a factor in 29 percent of all commercial motor vehicle crashes that are investigated. The report also found brakes make up the largest percentage of defects cited during roadside inspections.
