Winter rainstorm closes Marquette streets

MARQUETTE, MI--   High winds and rainy conditions whipped Lake Superior into a frenzy Monday and forced the closure of a Marquette street.

Lakeshore Boulevard from Fair Avenue to Hawley Street was shut down to traffic when waves started crashing over rip rap and flooded the roadway.

Officials also closed Pine Street from Fair to Lakeshore and Wright Street from Presque Isle Avenue to Lakeshore because of water on the road.

City officials will make an announcement once the streets are reopened.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
