Video gives tips on how to avoid spreading invasive species

LANSING, MI (AP)--   State agencies have developed a video that offers tips on how to avoid spreading invasive species.

Biologist Ryan Wheeler of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources says frequent travel and visiting high-traffic areas make it more likely that you'll have contact with invasive plants, animals and insects.

Many of them out-compete native species for food and living space, causing big environmental and economic problems.

The video shows steps you can take to reduce the risk of accidentally spreading invaders. It provides instructions on removing invasive species from clothing, gear and vehicles.

It's meant especially for outdoor recreation enthusiasts and people who work in businesses such as construction, farming and forestry.
