Fire at Marquette's Whetstone Village

MARQUETTE, MI--   Fire has displaced a Marquette resident from their home.

The Marquette Fire Department was notified Friday around 2:40 a.m. that flames were seen at 340 Whetstone Village #3.  The occupant had used a fire extinguisher to douse the fire and evacuated the building.

Firefighters say the fire was caused by the charging system of an electric-powered bicycle.  The floor of the apartment was damaged, as was the bicycle.

The resident is receiving assistance from the Pigs-N-Heat Fire Relief Fund.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
