WELLS TOWNSHIP, MI-- Officials were able to control a fire that broke out at the Verso Paper Mill in Escanaba.
Escanaba Public Safety was called by the Verso Fire Brigade around 11:25 Tuesday morning to help with a fire in one of the wood rooms. Two trucks and a rescue unit responded, along with nine officers.
Officials say the last unit cleared the scene around 2:30 Tuesday afternoon. They say quick response, the joint effort of both fire departments, and the building’s sprinkler system kept the fire from becoming worse.
