New boat dock opens at Fayette Historic State Park in UP

FAYETTE, MI (AP)--   A new boat dock has been opened at Fayette Historic State Park in Delta County.

The dock offers boating access from Snail Shell Harbor to Lake Michigan.

State Department of Natural Resources Parks and Recreation chief Ron Olson says the old dock was removed last fall after it was damaged the previous winter.

The new floating dock system has seven finger piers that range from 38 feet long to 60 feet long.

Boaters can use the dock on a first-come, first-served basis for the rest of the current season. Reservations are being taken now for use of slips next year.

The park is east of Escanaba.

The project was funded by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service boating infrastructure grant program and the Michigan State Waterways Fund.
