Help needed for Marquette Thanksgiving meal

MARQUETTE, MI--   Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly is looking for volunteers to help out with Thanksgiving dinner in Marquette.

Executive Director Kathy Aten says the meal is for those 60 and older who would otherwise be alone on the holiday.  It takes place Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Christopher’s Church.

Aten says the number of people who attend the event grows each holiday, and this year they’re also delivering meals.  She says they still have quite a few volunteer needs.

“We need people mostly for serving, cleaning up, helping in the kitchen to clean up there, also to transport a few elderly people to the dinner and home again and to deliver hot meals,” she says.

To volunteer call 482-6944.  Aten asks those who want to attend the dinner to register at the same number so they can plan for the amount of food needed.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
