MARQUETTE, MI-- Marquette firefighters are taking part in a 60-year tradition of raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association this weekend.
Friday and Saturday firefighters will be standing at certain intersections to collect money from passing drivers, who will put the cash in a fire boot.
Since 1954 the International Association of Firefighters has raised more than $585 million to fight muscular dystrophy, a disease that takes away physical strength, independence, and lives.
On Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. firefighters will be on the corners of Cleveland and McClelland and Third and Hewitt. Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. they’ll collect money on the corners of Pine and Fair, Third and Hewitt, and Front and Washington.
