Money granted to U.P. fire departments

MARQUETTE, MI--   Two Upper Peninsula fire departments have been given federal funding to help purchase equipment.

The Kingsford Public Safety Department is getting nearly $52,000 and the Marquette Township Fire and Rescue Department will receive just under $99,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants program.

Eligible fire departments and emergency medical services organizations can apply for the grants. They help first responders purchase equipment and get the training needed to handle fire-related hazards.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
