Middle school gunman report not true, Calumet troopers say

CALUMET TOWNSHIP, MI--   Police say a report Wednesday morning of a gunman at Washington Middle School in Calumet Township was false.

Troopers from the Calumet Post say middle school students heard talk of a possible lock-down drill and misunderstood the information. They called their parents to say there was a person with a gun in the school, and their parents called 911.

Troopers say at no time was anyone in danger and there was no threat to the school. They say law enforcement worked effectively with school officials and determined the information to be rumors.

No charges are being pursued since the report was mistakenly made, but officers are asking people to be cautious with information they receive, then call 911.
