KBIC releases twice-yearly payment list

BARAGA, MI--   The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community has released its list of recent gaming distributions.

Since 1993 the Tribe has been making biannual payments from gaming proceeds of its casinos. Two-percent payments are made to units of local governments and 8 percent goes to the State of Michigan.

Among the payments made to Marquette and Baraga County entities, Baraga Area Schools was given nearly $38,000; Bay Ambulance received $15,000; Beacon House got $5,000; and the Superior Watershed Partnership was given more than $15,000.

The payments are made each May and November.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
