MARQUETTE, MI-- Michigan’s firearm deer season begins Thursday.
Officials with the Department of Natural Resources say while whitetail numbers are rebounding from the harsh winters of 2013 and 2014, hunters should expect to see about the same number of deer as last year.
The DNR says Michigan is one of the top five states nationally in both the number of deer hunters and overall deer taken each year.
There were 376,365 deer harvested in 2017. More than 225,000 were antlered deer. Fifty-one percent were harvested during the firearm season, while 37 percent were taken during the archery season.
Firearm season runs through November 30.
