Escanaba bridge remains unfinished

ESCANABA, MI--   Due to weather conditions, work on the US-2 Escanaba River Bridge Project has been suspended for the season.

The new bridge span has not been completed. One lane will be open in each direction on the finished portion of the bridge again this winter.

The Michigan Department of Transportation had planned to have all lanes open by the end of November, but frozen ground is preventing necessary paving from proceeding. A labor dispute earlier this year delayed the project.

MDOT is working closely with the Delta County Road Commission to implement a strategic winter maintenance plan to respond to winter events.

Lead-in work on the bridge is expected to resume next May, weather permitting. The project is expected to be completed in early July.
