Search continues for missing NMU student

ISHPEMING TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Northern Michigan University student missing since Friday in Ishpeming Township still has not been found.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says Guiancarlo Estupigan, 25, went on a hike by County Road 510 near the Yellow Dog River Thursday afternoon. His roommate said he wanted to take photographs of the falls. When Estupigan didn’t return Friday afternoon the roommate went out to search and found his Subaru Crosstrek in the Yellow Dog parking lot.

Officials have been searching since that time, suspending it only when it became too dark.

Estupigan is a Northern sophomore majoring in Fish and Wildlife Management.

Assisting in the search are the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Michigan State Police, an MSP helicopter, and Marquette County Search and Rescue.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
