US-2 projects start next week

MARQUETTE, MI--   The resurfacing of 1.5 miles of US-2 in Iron Mountain starts Monday.

The Michigan Department of Transportation will redo the section between Kent Street and Michigan Avenue. The $942,000 project is expected to be completed by June 14.

Road work on another portion of US-2 in the eastern U.P. also starts Monday. MDOT says 10.3 miles of US-2 from Gulliver to 1 mile east of the US-2/M-77 intersection in Schoolcraft County will be resurfaced.

The project will cost $2.6 million and is expected to finish June 21.

Lane closures, traffic shifts and delays are expected during both projects.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
