Safety concerns close Peshtigo gun range

PESHTIGO, WI--   A Peshtigo, Wisconsin shooting range is being shut down because of safety concerns.

Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Suave says the Hipke Road Range is closed indefinitely after DNR officials reported multiple issues.

Officials are investigating reports of people in watercraft on the Lower Peshtigo River being in danger of bullets fired by people using the range. There have also been complaints of houses and garages being struck across the river from the range.

Suave says the closure is unfortunate but a prudent decision in the interest of public safety. He says it will allow officials to investigate complaints and work with the DNR to make safety improvements before the range can open again.
