Fire damages Marquette apartment building

MARQUETTE, MI--   No injuries were reported from a fire at Pine Ridge Apartments in Marquette Tuesday afternoon.

The City Fire Department was dispatched to the building around 12:30 p.m. and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof on the north half of the structure. Firefighters immediately struck a third alarm to call for additional personnel. They also requested help from the Marquette Township Fire Department. Firefighters from Chocolay Township responded to the scene, as well.

It took 42 firefighters about an hour to bring the blaze under control. The building was evacuated and all residents were moved to temporary housing at the NMU Superior Dome.

Firefighters left the scene around 4 p.m.

Residents of Pine Ridge looking for more information about the shelter are asked to call 211.

The Marquette City Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Marquette Police Department, the Marquette Township Fire Department, the Chocolay Township Fire Department, the Marquette County Sheriffs Department, NMU Public Safety, Semco Gas Company, UP Health System EMS, and the Marquette Board of Light and Power.
 
 
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
