Lost hunter, hikers found in Marquette County

MARQUETTE COUNTY, MI--   Monday was a busy day for Marquette County Search and Rescue personnel.

Sheriff’s deputies and volunteers were first dispatched to Republic Township on a report of a lost hunter. Prior to their arrival the hunter was found.

Search and Rescue was then redirected to Hogsback Mountain in Marquette Township to look for two lost hikers. Officials say Matthew Strong, 32 and Katherine Ducsay, 23, both of Marquette, went for a hike in the area around 5 p.m. They got lost on the trails and ended at the summit of the mountain. When it became dark they called 911 and waited for rescuers.

Search and Rescue located the hikers at the summit and escorted them to their vehicle. The hikers were in good condition.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
