Fire destroys Houghton County home

ATLANTIC MINE, MI--   An Atlantic Mine family has been displaced by a house fire.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched Thursday around 3:30 p.m. to a residence on North Huron Street. The home is considered to be a total loss.

Officials say it started by a deep fryer on a stove.

Adams Township Fire and First Responders were assisted by the Hurontown, South Range, Stanton Township, Otter Lake and Twin Lakes fire departments.

Money from the Pigs-n-Heat Fund will be used to place the family in a hotel for several nights.
