Helicopter finds missing kayaker near Nahma

NAHMA, MI--   A missing kayaker has been found safe in Delta County.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched Sunday around 11:50 p.m. to the Nahma area. A kayaker had become separated from her group and was forced to spend the night along the Sturgeon River.

A Coast Guard helicopter located the woman around 7 a.m. Monday. She was taken out of the wood by Delta County Search and Rescue members.

The kayaker was in good condition.

The Nahma Fire Department assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
