NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI--   It’s a record-setting winter already at the National Weather Service office in Negaunee Township.

Officials say 8.3 inches of snow fell in the area on Sunday. That broke the old record of 3.1 inches set in 1976.

Recent snowfall also established a new record at the office for the month of October. As of early Monday morning the total amount of snow fallen for the month measured 19.2 inches. That doesn’t even include snow that fell throughout the day. It breaks the old record of 18.6 inches set in 1979.

Weather records for the NWS Marquette office date back to 1961.
