Fire damages Negaunee house

NEGAUNEE, MI--   A Negaunee apartment was destroyed by fire over the weekend.

The Negaunee Fire Department was dispatched to a building on Oak Street Sunday around 3:30 a.m. and found smoke coming from the upstairs apartment. Flames shot out of the window soon afterward.

The fire was extinguished in about 45 minutes. Officials say a number of hot spots were found in the walls and fire had spread into the attic.

The upstairs apartment was a total loss. The second floor suffered fire, smoke and water damage.

Four people evacuated the building without injury. One resident is receiving assistance from the Pigs-n-Heat Fire Relief Fund.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
