No injuries reported in Houghton house fire

HOUGHTON, MI--   Firefighters spent about four hours putting out a house fire in Houghton Sunday evening.

The Houghton Fire Department was dispatched around 5:30 p.m. to a structure on College Avenue between Franklin Square and Prospect Street. They found smoke and flames coming from the building.

Fire officials say they couldn’t get into the house because it was too cluttered. They had to put out the fire from the outside.

The blaze apparently started in the kitchen. One man got out of the residence without injury.

Hurontown Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene. College Avenue was closed for several hours while firefighters put out the flames.

The house is likely a total loss.
