Missing woman found safe in Franklin Township

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, MI--   A missing woman with dementia and Parkinson's has been found safe in Houghton County.

Judith Plute, 75, was reported missing from a Franklin Township residence Tuesday around 8:15 p.m. The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office launched a search with the assistance of several area law enforcement agencies and K-9 units.

Wednesday around 3 p.m. Plute was found within the search area by her neighbor, John Burcar, and his dog. She was treated at the scene by medical personnel and released to her family.

Deputies were also assisted by the Houghton County Office of Emergency Measures, the Quincy, Franklin, Hancock Township and Dollar Bay Fire Departments, Superior Search and Rescue, Mercy Ambulance, the Salvation Army, Walmart and Garden View Assisted Living.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
