Marinette Sheriff releases more details about fatal crash in Pound

POUND, WI— Officials have released the name of the person killed in a multiple-vehicle crash and train derailment in Marinette County Wednesday morning.

It happened around 11:15 on US-141 in the town of Pound in thick fog.

A tanker semi full of fuel had stopped in the right northbound lane and a service van was stopped to its left as an Escanaba & Lake Superior train crossed the highway from east to west. A dump truck emerged from the fog and rear-ended the van, forcing it under the train. A second dump truck hit the first and impacted the train, derailing it.

The driver of the van—58-year-old Steven Buss of Kaukauna, Wisconsin—was killed. The drivers of the dump trucks were taken to the hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The train completely blocked all lanes of the highway. It was reopened to traffic Thursday around 12:15 p.m.
