UPDATE: Passenger dies in Delta County crash

UPDATE: DELTA COUNTY, MI— A passenger in a truck was killed in a crash near Rapid River Friday.

Michigan State Police from the Gladstone Post say it happened on US-2 east of Rapid River near CR-513 T Rd.

Troopers say William Rose, 56, of Gladstone, was driving westbound on US-2 when he lost control of his vehicle on black ice near the Rapid River School. Rose's vehicle crossed the centerline and was hit nearly head-on by an eastbound vehicle driven by Jon Gendron, 52, of Rapid River.

The passenger in Rose's vehicle—Stanley Chilicki, 68, of Gladstone—was pronounced dead at the scene. Rose was taken to OSF St. Francis Hospital with serious injuries.

Gendron was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
