Driver seriously injured in Portage Township accident

PORTAGE TOWNSHIP, MI— A woman was badly injured in a two-vehicle accident in Houghton County Tuesday.

It happened around 7 p.m. at the intersection of Paradise Road and Broemer Road in Portage Township.

Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post responded and found a female driver trapped in her vehicle. Hurontown Fire and Rescue was called in and extracted the woman with the Jaws of Life.

She was taken to UPHS-Portage, where she remains in critical condition.

No names have been released.

Troopers were assisted by the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, Houghton Police Department, and the Michigan DNR.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
