MACKINAC COUNTY, MI - Emergency personnel in Mackinac County are lucky to be uninjured, after a reckless driver drove through the scene of an accident Wednesday night.

St. Ignace Fire and Rescue was dispatched to a crash between two vehicles and a semi on US-2 between Brevort Lake Road and Lake Head Road. Traffic was stopped and waiting for officials to clear the area when one driver went around traffic and sped through the crash site, disregarding the safety of those at the scene.

In a Facebook post, first responders said it was the closest the department had ever come to losing several members. Law enforcement at the crash immediately responded to find the vehicle.

A 24-year veteran of the fire department said it was the worst close call they’d ever had.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
