Man drowns in Lake Michigamme

MICHIGAMME, MI--   Police continue to investigate a drowning at Van Riper State Park on Friday. 

Witnesses say around 6:30 p.m. Shawn Radcliffe, Jr., 38, of Marquette was swimming with friends in Lake Michigamme when he began to have difficulties.  His friends tried to rescue Radcliffe, but were unsuccessful. 

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team located and recovered Radcliffe’s body shortly after 10 p.m.  Officials say no foul play is suspected. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
