Ontonagon drowning victim identified

ONTONAGON, MI--   Officials have released the name of a Montana man who drowned in Lake Superior in the Western U.P.

The Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Department says the body of William Jaksha, 54, of Billings was found Tuesday about 20 yards from shore near Ontonagon.  He had apparently been seen walking along the beach earlier in the day.

The incident remains under investigation, but officials say alcohol was likely a factor in Jaksha’s death.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
