Afloat woman rescued from Lake Michigan

GARFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI (AP)--   Authorities in Mackinac County say they rescued a Lansing-area woman from Lake Michigan after the personal watercraft she was using drifted from shore.

The Sheriff's Department says Mary Dupree of Holt started having mechanical difficulties Sunday with the watercraft off Garfield Township and strong winds pushed her from shore.

Dupree and her watercraft were recovered with help from area fishermen, the Sheriff's Department and the state Department of Natural Resources.  She wasn't injured.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
