Humboldt Township crash injures family

HUMBOLDT TOWNSHIP, MI--   Three people are injured, following a two-vehicle accident in Humboldt Township.

Troopers from the Negaunee Post say the crash happened Tuesday around 9:35 a.m. on US-41 at M-95.  They say Gary Smith, 52, of Spring Valley, Illinois was westbound when he attempted to turn south onto M-95.  He struck an eastbound vehicle driven by Wayne Prochaska, 51, of Lake Orion.

Prochaska’s van left the roadway and rolled over, injuring him, 15-year-old Kileigh, and 13-year-old Kloey Smith.  They were all taken to Marquette General Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Smith was cited for failure to yield to oncoming traffic.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
