Body found in pond identified

UPDATE: 9/14/12  7:22 p.m.

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Police have released the identity of a body found in Marquette Township.

Hikers found the body floating in Wetmore Pond Thursday evening.  It was recovered by the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team and taken to Marquette General Hospital.

Using dental records, the identity of the deceased person was confirmed as Amy Luella Janson, 25, of Marquette, who was reporting missing in May after her backpack was found in the pond near the shoreline.  Police had searched the area with K9s and divers, but the depth of silt on the bottom of the pond and lack of visibility prevented officers from finding Janson.

State Police say although the incident remains under investigation, foul play is not suspected.
