Ishpeming teen injured in ORV accident

ISHPEMING TOWNSHIP, MI--   An Ishpeming man is injured, following an ORV crash in Ishpeming Township.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened Sunday around 4:45 p.m. on Deer Lake Road, 3.6 miles north of County Road GM.

Deputies say the 17-year-old was northbound when he tried to pass another ORV on a curve and hit a southbound Jeep driven by a 39-year-old Marquette man head-on.

The driver of the ORV sustained serious injuries and was taken to Marquette General Hospital for treatment.

Officials say the teen was wearing a helmet and alcohol was not a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
