Munising woman killed in single-vehicle crash over the weekend

EBEN, MI--   State police from the Negaunee Post are investigating a fatal car crash in Alger County.

The accident happened Saturday around 7 p.m. on ET Road south of Eben.  Troopers say Jill Siltala, 59, of Munising was southbound when her car left the right side of the roadway.  The driver’s side of the car slammed into a power pole, shearing it off.  The vehicle then rolled over and came to rest on its wheels.

Siltala, the lone occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The Jaws of Life were used to extricate her from the car.

Troopers say alcohol appears to be a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
