Pickup, logging truck crash in Iron County

MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI--   No injuries are reported, following a crash between a logging truck and a pickup pulling a horse trailer.

The accident happened Friday shortly after noon on M-69 near Parks Creek in Iron County’s Mansfield Township.  Sheriff’s officials say Jeanine Schira, 28, of Stephenson had pulled her truck and trailer to the side of the road to check on a possible mechanical problem with her vehicle.  When she was done she started to re-enter the eastbound lane of M-69 and pulled into the path of a logging truck driven by Michael Brzoznowski, 35, of Iron Mountain.

Brzoznowski took evasive action and sideswiped the front of Schira’s vehicle.  Brzoznowski then lost control of his fully-loaded truck, which rolled over and crashed into some woods off the highway.

M-69 was closed for about an hour until the Schira vehicle and logs from the Brzoznowski truck could be removed from the highway.  The road was then reduced to one lane until 4 p.m. until the logging truck could be removed from the woods.

Officials say neither driver—nor the horse—was injured in the crash.
