Marquette man killed in car/pedestrian accident

MARQUETTE, MI--   An elderly Marquette man has died in a car-pedestrian accident in the city. 

Police say the crash happened around 7 a.m. Saturday on West Washington Street near Burger King.  Donald Papin, 86, was crossing the street when an eastbound van driven by a 50-year-old Marquette resident who was on his way to work hit him.   Papin was fatally injured.

The accident remains under investigation. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
